I'm working on new Mario Map paintings, the first step of which is creating mock-ups in Photoshop. I plan on making six paintings, each measuring 9" by 12".
This size of this kind of map in Super Mario World is called a "submap". It's like a smaller, zoomed-in world such a cave, forest or small island.
I wanted to include a variety of worlds, and the Underground theme is one I haven't done yet.
I'm using a wider variety of sprites for these paintings. It's amazing what you can find on the Internet! My favorite is the red Gibson SG guitar in this snow world.
Up next: the long process of painting! But it's well worth it- there's nothing like bringing these screen images to life as real paintings!
